Google Apps at NNU
Google Apps at NNUAs part of the Google domain at NNU, Google+ and Google Drive and many other tools are available. Drive is a great tool for working with documents. You can edit, store and collaborate on documents quickly. You can also upload most Microsoft types of documents as well as pdf's and then share them with as wide of an audience as you choose. PLEASE use caution when sharing documents. Make sure you are not sharing private, confidential information. We recommend only placing these kinds of sensitive materials on Google Drive temporarily while you are working on them and then using great care to protect a document from being edited or viewed by others who could possibly share it. To learn more about working within Google Drive, check out this quick tutorial from a Google expert.
YouTubeWith every Google account, you receive a YouTube account because YouTube is part of Google now. This is where you can store instructional videos or how-to videos and share them with classes, or even other individuals, privately. You may also put videos out publicly, but be careful of the content you share publicly. For recording your instructional videos and capturing screen shots during a video, you may check in with the Center for Online and Blended Learning at NNU, 208-467-8332.
Google Plus Highlights
Because we respect your privacy, there are some things you need to know BEFORE you join Google+: You must use your common name (not some strange alias like Bugsy) which will be visible to the public beyond NNU, and you must be at least 18 years old.
If you understand that your name will be public and if you are 18 years old or more, you can quickly access Google+ by logging in on Google.com, then clicking the + by your name in the upper right corner of the web page. You can then create and modify your Google+ profile. Make sure to join using your commonly known name and not a nickname.
Google+ Profiles: Create a profile with as much or as little information about yourself as you like. For example, you can add information about your classes, campus activities or groups, projects, and expertise. You can choose which information is visible to others inside or outside of NNU. The only exception is your name, which is always publicly visible.
Circles: Share information with specific people by organizing your contacts into circles. For example, create circles for friends, classmates, courses, projects, or special-interest groups on campus.
Hangouts: Connect and communicate with students or faculty in multi-way video rooms called hangouts. You can also preview Hangouts with extras, which provide screen sharing and integrates with Google Docs for collaborative editing. When you start or join your first hangout, you will be prompted to install the Google Voice and Video Chat plug-in for your web browser. If you plan to use video chat, you will need a web cam.
Picasa Web Albums: Because Google+ uses Picasa Web Albums for photo sharing, we've also turned on this service for your Google Apps account. When you share photos, they're stored in Picasa Web Albums, which you can access at picasaweb.google.com.
Mobile access: You can use Google+ on mobile devices, using either a native app or a mobile web browser.
The Fine Print
When using Google+ with your NNU email address, your Google Apps administrator retains the right to access your Google+ data and modify or delete it at any time based on the policies of Northwest Nazarene University. Our campus Network and Computer Use Policy and Code of Conduct apply to Google+ usage.
